Hong Kong, part 1: The Menus

Despite our best efforts to gamble in Macau and shop in Shenzen, the streets, alleyways, and neighborhoods of Hong Kong proper proved too much for us to conquer during our stay. And in each neighborhood, we ate. And then we ate some more.

While details of the days will follow, the following list of restaurants we visited should give you an idea of our indulgence.

Monday Lunch
Dim Sum at Jade Garden consisting of seven dishes including:
  • Pork buns
  • Vegetable dumplings
  • Fried prawn spring rolls
  • Marrow with squid
Monday Afternoon Tea
At the Kowloon Sheraton overlooking the harbor

Monday Dinner
At San San Trois. Vin described this meal quite succinctly when he sent out an email with the subject: "Best meal of my life"

Tuesday Lunch
At Yung Kee on Hong Kong island
  • Roast goose
  • Lemon chicken
  • Spareribs over fried noodles
  • Wonton soup with noodles

Wednesday Lunch
Dim sum at Yan Toh Heen (located in the Intercontinental Hotel)
  • Pork in puff pastry
  • Pork buns
  • Fungus dumplings
  • Glutinous rice with stuff wrapped in lotus leaf
  • Dumplings with pork, shrimp and shark fin
  • Galoupa (fish) wrapped with vegetables

Wednesday Dinner
At the Chuk Yuen Seafood Restaurant
  • Steamed prawns with mashed garlic
  • Sauteed scallops
  • Garlic Chilli prawns
  • Seafood hot pot

Thursday Lunch
Dim Sum at the Wu Kong Shanghai Restaurant
  • Pork Dumplings
  • Spring rolls
  • Spring onion cakes
  • Pork buns

Thursday Dinner
At Spring Deer Peking restaurant
  • Fried Rice with assorted meats
  • Peking Duck

Friday Lunch
Turkish food in Mui Wo on Lantau Island
  • Chicken kebab
  • Halumi
  • Segara borek
  • Humus
  • Babaganoush

Friday Dinner #1
Noodles on Wellington St
  • Fried wide noodles with chicken and mushrooms
  • Instant noodles with spicy vegetables and pork in soup

Friday Dinner #2
At Festive China in Kowloon Tong
  • Fried pork dumplings
  • Steamed vegetable dumplings
  • Steamed pork buns

Saturday Lunch
Dim sum at Luk Yu Tea House
  • Shrimp wontons in soup
  • Steamed pork buns
  • Glutinous rice with shrimp and chinese sausage
  • Steamed shrimp dumplings
  • Steamed dumplings with pork and shrimp roe
  • Fried meat dumplings
Desserts of:
  • Egg tarts
  • Mashed lotus seeds in sweet glutinous rice
